IDK how to explain it but if you took a white/olive guy and a dark brown guy having same phenotype. If the white/ light guy tanned to dark brown levels his skin would look different. Its not just extra melanin.

It determines how pink your undertones are when unranned. But red, orange, yellow etc are diff.
