No one in my day to day life ever seems to think about our future as a species. I can’t help but wonder why they don’t. We are on the cusp of a very uncertain chain of events.
For starters I’m sure that we only have a decade at most until AI completely replaces us in an economic sense. It’s really just a matter of time and water and computing power before it’s smart enough for most white collar jobs.
I mean come on, some people still believe that AI will stop progressing or that there are things that AI will never be able to do. The human brain is just a big flesh computer. Why couldn’t the brain be replicated? Why can’t it do your job? Why can’t AI make art? Why can’t AI have feelings?
What’s stopping me from uploading my brain to AI? We did it with fruit flies why not humans? It raises philosophical questions for sure but that’s a whole other topic.
Once the first human becomes immortal through code, it will seem silly to choose to die as an organic human. People are always cautious of new technology but we all know that 90% of them come around eventually.
So then what happens next??? People are obviously going to choose to create a paradise for themselves inside the matrix and live inside it indefinitely. It’s as dystopian as it sounds.
The same technology that could provide infinite pleasure could provide infinite torture. If one sadist had enough power they could create an infinitely replicating hell for everyone.
I realize im getting too far ahead of myself, but I hope that you dear reader understand what I’m saying. People are just going about their lives oblivious or indifferent to what might happen very soon.
I dont know if we as a species can afford to take any risks.
We could possibly stop it all from happening, but that’s the most unrealistic thing I’ve suggested so far. I’m barely motivated enough to write this stupid essay. We might get some fervently anti AI TikTok edits if we get lucky. Good luck getting the basement dwellers to actually do something though. Seriously, people have barely done anything about the Epstein files. That is a current and tangible issue. People are more concerned about AI replacing their shitty art than AI destroying the world. It’s going to be really hard to get the double digits IQs to have enough foresight to stand against something they can’t see that doesn’t directly affect them as of now.
Let’s say hypothetically we did go on jihad against the new technology. It wouldn’t take too much work. The AI can’t defend itself yet…
A few blown up data centers would put AI out of commission for at least enough time to make a spectacle and wake people up.
I like to think that I’m going to do something about it. You might see me in the news one day and hail me as a hero, or maybe I’ll just fucking die before I get close to doing literally anything.
If you read this far through my schizophrenic plot then I hope you got something out of it.
Like I said I’m already apathetic just by writing for this long. Maybe everyone else here already realizes what I’m saying and maybe yall are also too lazy to do anything.
It doesn’t seem like anyone realizes however. Maybe they just have hobbies and relationships to take their minds off of existential dread. I realize I’m no prophetic genius and it’s probably the case that I just have nothing better to do than think.
Oh well back to wasting my youth away. I hope you enjoyed reading.
