free energy as in given away for free is one thing, free energy as in generated enough for everyone at such high efficiency and low cost is nonsense as it violates basic laws of thermodynamics, you can never get out of a system more than you put in, you can make power generation more efficient but nuclear fusion is the only real likely candidate for getting enough energy cheaply enough to make it viable.
