in my opinion based on what i've seen i have come to the conclusion that there are 3 different types of religious people.

if you are religious you are most likely to fall under one of these, however keep in mind that it's not either or, you can fall under 2 or even all of the categories.

1. struggling people

these people are living a hard life and turn to god as a way to cope with their struggles. the idea that there is a god watching over them and promising them eternal happiness if they serve him brings them comfort and helps them find hope in a hopeless life.

I have nothing against these people, in fact i have empathy towards them. i would say that majority of religious people fall under this category.

2. privileged people

these people are ultimately living an easy life and sometimes only really believe in god because of the fact that theyre living an easy life. think of a family that lives in a first world country, they have money, they're all healthy, theyre all happy. why wouldnt they believe in god? they are seemingly blessed by him, so it feels natural for them to believe. a lot of these privileged people who believe in god are also ignorant to what is going on in the world since it doesnt directly affect them, so it doesnt affect their belief in god in any way.

i believe that 1 and 2 are 2 ends of the same spectrum. meaning not everybody is either extremely privileged and not everybody is living a hellish life, obviously. some people are in the middle, they may be privileged enough to have a home, have food to eat, and have good health. however they may also go through some struggles as any person does. and their belief in god can be due to both their gratefulness for the privileges that they have as well as a way to cope with the struggles they go through.

3. people who have a genuine interest in religion

these people actually take time to learn about the different religions and choose the religion they think is the most convincing/true. a lot of them definitely have some bias toward the religion they were born into when theyre learning about them but not all of them are like this.

i respect these people the most because they dont just blindly believe, and they realize that religion is a nuanced topic that requires a deep understanding of god and philosophy.

after writing this thread and rereading it i feel like im pointing out the obvious but i never really stated that this was some kind of hot take tbh.

There are people who turned to God because they realize the satanic evil going on.
This guy was an athiest rich banker who worked for the elites and he was shocked by the satanic luciferian child sacrifice of the elites and believed in Jesus Christ realizing the spirit is real.

He witness infront of his eye then realized, he was an extreme rich banker who worked for the elites and no interest at all on God or Satan stuff or spiritual things before, does it also count??

his interest in god stemmed from the fact that he realized the world was evil and that led him to seeking knowledge about religion so i would say yes. however not everybody falls under those categories, i shouldve stated that, however most will and even for those who dont i would say that you can still make an argument that they do one way or another.

You forgot the fourth category which is kind of similar to second, people that like the aesthetic. Chicks that post their ass on instagram and have a verse in bio but couldn't quote it or dudes that just want to wear a cross necklace. They piss me off so fucking much, I'd rather run into a total reddit athiest (which I have met in real life, this one foid was telling me about how my God wouldn't want me doing x y and z but when I asked her for the verse she told me she never actually read any of the bible and made it up. Jfl)

i wouldnt even consider those people religious so i didnt think to add them. i was also gonna add being born into a religion and that being the reason why you believe in it but i feel like simply being born into a religion implies that you're neutral about religion. but if you are born into a religion and are religious i feel like they can potentially fall under one of the other categories.

True, I assumed you were more talking people part of Christiandom. I would say even 90% of 'believers' wouldn't count as being properly religious because Jesus says in revelation He will push them away and say "I never knew you" since most fail to learn even the most basic things. Less than 3% of churches in America teach the most basic information about Jesus jfl, and none of the archetypes you list necessary have their heart postured out to Jesus since they do it for selfish reasons (inward heart posture), though of course by praying to the Holy Spirit we can all be reborn spiritually regardless of which category.
