Yeah jat identity emerged later but . The things align. Because malhis is tribe/clan of jat . And its like that different clans of jats stelled in different regions for example you will see all the villages about 10- 15 villages of same clan located near each other.

And in porus region the dominant clan was virk . And even tody virk is considered premium clan among jats so yeah he was virk jat . ( source i just made it up )
