The family tree of the Habsburgs, a German-Austrian ruling family whose domain stretched from Portugal to Transylvania, is a tangled one. Like many royal families, the Habsburgs made strategic marriages to consolidate their power, often to close relatives. And while the dynasty’s regalia was glittery and their palaces splendid, the royals themselves were markedly less easy on the eyes: Generation after generation, Habsburg monarchs had sharply jutting jaws, bulbous lower lips and long noses. This distinctive “Habsburg jaw,” a new analysis published in the Annals of Human Biology finds, most likely resulted from inbreeding.

The researchers, led by geneticist Román Vilas from Spain’s University of Santiago de Compostela, focused on 15 members of the so-called Spanish Habsburgs. While the Habsburg family rose to power in central Europe as the rulers of Austria, Germany and eventually the Holy Roman Empire, the family’s influence spread westward to Spain after Philip I, son of the second Habsburg Holy Roman Emperor, married Joan of Castile in 1496. The Spanish Habsburgs’ reign lasted two centuries, until the 38-year-old Charles II, a king whose manifold health woes and infertility scholars often attribute to severe inbreeding, died in 1700 with no immediate heir….

Everything lookswise is about genetics. Screw all that mewing cope bullshit. You will not look like Brad Pitt later in life just because you put your tongue on the roof of your mouth during your childhood

environment also plays a role, but we dont know how much because most of the family presumably had a similar lifestyle

bad thread, being a genetic failure like these guys isn't comparable to the recession of modern people
Even in the middle age 99.8% had naturally straigth teeth/ class 1 occlusion
1950 this number decreased to 40%
Now it's about 10%
One special example doesn't proof shit

That and- these people are from royal families. Which means they didnt have to work as kids or young adults (help their parents in the household, in the garden etc.). They permarotted in their castle drinking tea all day and philosophizing about irrelevant shit, meanwhile their maids and gardeners did all the work. Because of that they grew up as low T cuklets with shitty body posture and as weak soyboys.

Average man that grew up in a village and had to workmaxx from young age would squash these royal sissies' head with his bare hands.

by your logic all members from royal families must have looked that way…which they didnt - only people who had habsburg dna in them

which just shows how genetics trump environment

99.9 percent of people aren’t inbred enough to have gene defects like the Habsburgs therefore this statement is not applicable.

again: if environment would matter the most in jaw delevopment, inbreeding would have close to zero effect because inbreeding only affects genetics. the fact that this example exists, is a huge hit for "environment is everything" theory, simply because such an example cant be explained.

the fact, that inbreeding can have huge impact, clearly hints that genetics has a huge influence on jaw development and ofc the genetic impact on jaw development us not limited to inbreed people

16 year old identical twins. The one on the right has sleep apnea. I guess poor posture can mess up growth also.

are these thr first identical twins with different heights?

btw im not denying environmental factors play a role as you can see in the thread title

Indeed, there’s a lot of subhumans out there with big browridges and big chins. Sounds like an oxymoron Ik, but stuff like that can be largely just genetic as well
