I see them pulling mad money. 200k fresh out of college. 40-50k joining bonus. Top tier quants in hedge funds and propereitary trading literally get bonuses of 5-20 million dollars. I wish I had the skills and connections to do quant. I am good at DSA and Math but know next to nothing about high finance topics and ML

Quant is very competitive in India. Extremely few roles. Is that the case in US?

The US has a much larger market for quant positions because of the top-tier hedge funds Citadel Two Sigma) and prop trad like Hudson River Trading), These firms hire hundreds of quants annually, with roles ranging from algo trading to risk modeling and ML-driven strategies. But all entry level positions go to PhD graduates from elite schools MIT, Stanford with top tier profiles

I'd say its easier in the US to get a quant job. Also these quant firms dont care about where you arr from or what you look like. You be from mars but if you can make them a profit they'll hire you

One more thing I forgot to mention in OP is that it is extremely hectic. Most people only fo quant for like 7-8 years and quit for more comfy role.

probably very true, I have a friend of a friend's uncle in America who's fairly high up in actuary(not quant, but still very high salary like 250k) and making bank and he's lowkey pretty ND with no family nepotism. Just a smart guy who does the job well.

Also I meant for Indians from India, because there's just so much less wealth to go around and not many large firms like America.

Quant trader and day trader is the same thing

But Quant regulators make crazy money. But you need to have extremely good knowledge of the markets for it. Not some FRM/CFA Level1 certification that nowadays every curry shitskin has

quant traders use algorithms and math to make it. Day traders are more like gamblers that go off gut feeling. Quant= research + engineering

Over for ITcels

I can't even use my brain hard enough for tech

Probably have to settle with MBA in Marketing/HR from some top college and go abroad in holidays

You are an engineering grad your chances of making it to IIM is low unless you have years of experience and are ready to put down 40-50 lakhs

Im not joking btw one of seniors who got 99.97 percentile in CAT with 9 cgpa in tier 1 didnt get call back from a single IIM. I dont even know what they are even looking for at this point @Chadeep

That's more like for top 5 IIMs

I'll probably pick some tier 1/1.5 high roi college

Mostly top 5-6 IIMs are impossible to convert and even if I do, not worth taking so much loan

My B.Tech was already without a loan

I wouldnt personally do a mba right after btech. Your mba is kinda useless without experience backing it up.

Yeah I mean it will take me 1/2 yrs to crack a proper college minimum

In the meantime i will be doing something

But I've heard that generally they prefer freshers or little experience in Marketing fields

I remember looking into this. I already did an honours degree in maths and computer science so I thought it would be a good idea to do a masters in quant. But ultimately, it look way too competitive, I'd probably be wasting my time and won't end up being hired as a quant

Too slow to compete with Asians for an analyst/research position but I’m decently motivated in a domain of compilers that requires C++ knowledge (LLVM project if you’re familiar with it). I’m thinking of continuing my open source contributions, get a masters and acquire a job in compiler work or C++ development and hopefully pivot into some quant field, like a developer position. But the quant field is a secondary goal for me so I’ll be fine being in another space.

Tbh doesnt exist. The closest I can think off is IFS but you said you dont want govt job and for IFS you have to crack UPSC for that. Another would be product manager ans cybersec which are both chill but you need experience for that and arent doid dominated. HR and Digital Marketing are female dominated but pay is low usually.

Yes in tech but needs an MBA or a dev with good talking skills. You will meet lots of people and would have to talk with clients/people outside the company, go on trips regularly. Good pay also. With not a lot of office work.

HR is alright but won't pay too well unless its a highly specialized roles like HR tech specialist, Brand manager or something. You can also do devops like me. You get paid to look at screen but you need to be available on call at midnight sometimes, also fixing CI/CD pipelines can get frustrating i wouldnt call it chill but it fits your description of low work and great pay.

i just saw that u become pm by early 30s on an avg
brvtal will take my youth

i plan to get a rhino and some quick permanent fixes / tweaks and ascend to chadpreet/lite in late 20s

my uncle has a tech startups for the past 5 years and touchwood it started to soar

mainly offers services related to cybersec, devops, idam (identity access mgmt)

but he will make me look like a corporate jeet and i would be having no freedom of looks

i'm satisfied with 1.25L/pm atleast in-hand after tax deduction as starting

i have seen that i really have bad skills for mathematical reasoning, etc

i've seen people in my class from jee/neet coaching centres to uni that there are people who grasp stuff easily and i have to go thro it like 2-3 times more

never was i interested in science

But don't you think these people are just profitable and connections game instead of being the top performers? I see it as daycare jobs for them as long as they pull their weight. Because any money allocated to them could have been allocated to top performer and more money coulda been made.

Yeah exactly, that's why I disagreed with you about them needing to be a top performer/ having a very high IQ

i am saying they are allowed because there is someone else being top performer and picking up the slack. their job is just daycare
