Not just single mothers from the hood are attracted to thugs: self-proclaimed leftist/liberal women are also open to criminals.
Because they lack a figure with clear authority over them, the dominant behaviour and general sexual dimorphism seen in criminals and the push for accepting criminality as normal under some circumstances, the women in question end up attracted to thugs. Sure, some of them are just virtue signalling, but most get truly wet by these people. It's absurd.
And even the ones who are just virtue signalling wouldn't be hard to get as it'd be socially inacceptable to reject a thug. Women's fear of confrontation plays a big role in all of this, but specially in this case.
Seriously, just thugmax, they wouldn't even falsely accuse you of rape.
