If you as a father have raised a child of yours since Its birth, taught him things, took care of it
Now your wife has broken up with you and took the children with her
One day you want to reunite with your children, but they stop acknowledging you as their father ( lets just say a stepfather took your place for the sake of it ), despite you treating them right there is no gratitude whatsoever let alone just the most basic thing in the father-child relationship

Now regarding real life, what so called "choice " are we talking about here, is being thankful and just seeing him as your Creator that hard?

Why would you love someone who you have helped with in life/ giving you an opportunity, ability to have eternal happiness who would just end up ignoring you not even acknowledging your existence

obviously would that behaviour result in disliking the person

Because what benefit would it have brought me if I would have shown effort or love to the Religion if the Love wouldve been the same towards someone treating God like nothing
