Every decadent culture, society that has grown weak and bloated was reset by one only one thing.
A superior branch or people coming in and breaking everything down, conquest and mass rape of the people who've fallen off.

Now that obviously isn't possible with today's warfare and technology. Only Lord knows what's going to happen next in this set of circumstances.
