theoretically, If they invented a time machine today you'd only have the ability to go back to today. The anchor point can only be set in the present. So if you wanted to go back in time you'd have to find an alien civilization that set an anchor at an earlier time.

Since we have no contact with aliens your best bet would actually be to go forward in time with faster than light travel to have a better chance at us having had contact. But we haven't went anywhere near light speed so it's over.

even if we could do FTL and you find these aliens with this time machine you'd still be an adult. a time machine doesn't turn back time just sends you back in time.
