I have been following this AI craze from the very beginning with the introduction of the first LLMs that hit the market. I've been talking about this AI stuff everyday for years now and have made numerous threads about AI and it's adjacent concepts on the forum and on reddit but what is hard for me to grasp is the progress we have made. It's the first time in my life tech is accelerating so fast that even the people building it sound a bit spooked.

The pace of AI progress has gone from impressive to almost comical. Two years ago GPT-4 felt like the ceiling; today models like Grok 4, Chatgpt 5, o3-pro, and Gemini 3 that are blowing past it on every metric while using tricks that weren’t even in papers last Christmas that is how quickly AI development is going on. Trillions of dollars being thrown at the problem with all smartest most talented scientists in the world it. Legit insanity.

The scaling graphs look less like curves and more like someone yanked the line straight upward.

compute keeps working, data keeps working, and nobody inside the labs wants to say out loud where the actual wall is anymore

Under the surface, the vibe among researchers has quietly flipped from “we mostly know what’s coming” to “we have no idea. Many sceptics who spent years making careful forecasts now admitting every timeline they had is broken. It’s not public panic yet but the this might actually keep going for a while realization is sinking in fast.

It's like everyone is racing to create the next lightbulb or something.

There are yet to be any restrictions or limitations for its usage, it's concerning.

At most there's a paywall.

It’s like having a little autistic brother who rambles about tech all day. Very wholesome
I am very passionate about this stuff. There's a reason I love my line of work

AI tech hasnt really improved in theory in a good while. Soon enough we will hit a reasonable hardware limit that stops us. And gpt5 isnt really much better, wasnt it supposed to be a 3% improvement at the cost of higher hallucination rates? But I will admit its quite impressive and looks like it will keep going, im sure youve seen the protein folding problem a little bit ago was able to be solved by AI

AI still has those hard limits like hallucinations and stochastic parrot problem but people have been finding ways to get around it. Maybe we will hit a limit at some point but atm it's not showing down anytime soon.

I am so fucking excited to see where all this is going, even if it is catastrophic. We already see AI development affecting day to day life, with for example RAM recently - with the whole Micron situation.

But damn, I've been following along with this for years - same as you - and i just cannot WAIT to see it all come more and more together. AI is probably the most important technological advancement we will have for decades, it's insane to think that i am living in this period.

Who knows, maybe in 4-5 years from now we will have AGIs that render humans basically useless in most work spaces. The uncertainty is what keeps both you and me on edge  It's like watching your favorite show unfold, but you're ACTUALLY in it :soy:

True. This requires a thread I've read about it a lot but never bothered making a thread. I'll do more research and make one.

It'd make for an intresting thread for sure, tag me in it as always.

U.S has been in the front lines of AI development forever so I'm curious to see to what china will resort to somehow make it to the lead.

Only Google wins the AI race, everybody else is gonna bust hard. Apple will probably pay off the patents to cover up for the billions burnt by some of the lesser companies riding on hype. But Google wins in all scenarios

These tech nerds fucked up the dating environment with online dating so now they owe us AGI gfs
