I have been following this AI craze from the very beginning with the introduction of the first LLMs that hit the market. I've been talking about this AI stuff everyday for years now and have made numerous threads about AI and it's adjacent concepts on the forum and on reddit but what is hard for me to grasp is the progress we have made. It's the first time in my life tech is accelerating so fast that even the people building it sound a bit spooked.

The pace of AI progress has gone from impressive to almost comical. Two years ago GPT-4 felt like the ceiling; today models like Grok 4, Chatgpt 5, o3-pro, and Gemini 3 that are blowing past it on every metric while using tricks that weren’t even in papers last Christmas that is how quickly AI development is going on. Trillions of dollars being thrown at the problem with all smartest most talented scientists in the world it. Legit insanity.
The scaling graphs look less like curves and more like someone yanked the line straight upward.
compute keeps working, data keeps working, and nobody inside the labs wants to say out loud where the actual wall is anymore
Under the surface, the vibe among researchers has quietly flipped from “we mostly know what’s coming” to “we have no idea. Many sceptics who spent years making careful forecasts now admitting every timeline they had is broken. It’s not public panic yet but the this might actually keep going for a while realization is sinking in fast.
It's like everyone is racing to create the next lightbulb or something.
