Young Depp always had more appeal to prime women compared to young Cruise. Depp was consistently on the cover of girl mags like Cosmopolitan. Much of Cruises fan base was men who liked Top Gun

But they aged in different directions: Cruise aged like a rare expensive wine, Depp slowly descended into looking like a homeless addict.

Pitt was more of a heartthrob than the two of them combined though and was on so many covers of teen girl magazines even when he was in his early thirties.

To think he was 40 when filming Troy (as the spartan soldier Achilles) is mind boggling. The contrast to other actors his age, let alone the average man in public who is 40, is akin to a different species.
