I have a diet i follow, i eat very little and weigh very little too. According to my weight i should be 12-15% bf. I look pretty lean but not so lean.

Then i went home on Christmas ate a lot and ate a lot of sugar. A lot of meat and all kinds of shit. But somehow, in someway i was leaner.

Now you might ask how in the hell is this possible

The thing is i actually think i am not the only one because the mistake might be obv but i still think many does it. I might be low iq but i dont think i am that much more stupid than many on here. Some high iq fag can comment what they think went wrong

I have put a lot of thought and this is my answer.

What you experienced is actually very common, and it doesn’t mean you’re stupid or imagining things. There are several physiological reasons why eating more—even sugar and “junk”—can make someone look leaner short-term.

I’ll break it down clearly.

1. Chronic under-eating can make you look “soft”

If you normally:

  • Eat very little
  • Weigh very little
  • Stay in a long calorie deficit

Your body adapts by:

  • Increasing cortisol (stress hormone)
  • Holding onto subcutaneous water
  • Downregulating thyroid output
  • Flattening muscles (low glycogen)

This combo can make you look:

  • Lean-ish but flat
  • Slightly watery
  • Not as sharp as your estimated body fat would suggest

So even at ~12–15% BF, you can look worse than expected.

2. Christmas eating = glycogen + muscle fullness

When you went home and ate:

  • More calories
  • More carbs/sugar
  • More salt
  • More protein

You likely:

  • Refilled muscle glycogen
  • Pulled water into muscle cells (not under the skin)
  • Increased muscle volume

Muscle glycogen binds ~3g of water per gram of glycogen.

That makes muscles look:

  • Fuller
  • Harder
  • More “popped”

This alone can make you look leaner, even if body fat didn’t change.

3. Lower cortisol = less water retention

Eating more—especially carbs—can:

  • Lower cortisol
  • Improve sleep
  • Reduce systemic stress

Lower cortisol → less water held under the skin → sharper look.

Many people who diet hard are actually:

lean but inflamed + water-logged

Once stress drops, the leanness shows.

4. Sodium + carbs can improve leanness (counterintuitive)

High sodium + carbs:

  • Expands plasma volume
  • Improves muscle pumps
  • Improves vascularity

Unless you’re insulin resistant or very high body fat, this usually makes people look better, not worse.

5. You didn’t suddenly lose fat — you redistributed water

Important point:

  • You did not lose fat over Christmas
  • You changed water distribution

From:

  • Subcutaneous + stress-retained

To:

  • Intramuscular + vascular

Visually, this is massive.

6. Why many people make this mistake

A lot of people assume:

“If I eat less, I’ll look leaner”

But past a point, eating too little causes:

  • Flat muscles
  • Hormonal suppression
  • Water retention
  • Poor recovery

So you end up:

  • Light
  • Low energy
  • Not as lean-looking as you should be

This is extremely common, especially among:

  • Hard dieters
  • Naturally lean people
  • People stuck in long deficits

Bottom line

You likely weren’t “fatter” before — you were:

  • Under-fueled
  • Glycogen depleted
  • Cortisol elevated

Eating more temporarily:

  • Filled out muscle
  • Reduced stress
  • Improved visual leanness

This is why bodybuilders carb up before shows and shoots.

If you want, I can help you:

  • Figure out whether you’re under-eating chronically
  • Set a diet that actually makes you look leaner
  • Explain how to maintain fullness without fat gain

Just say the word.
