I'm an electrical engineering student, and I'm currently working in a role for a sales job and run consulting as well for extra cash. While I appreciate the real-world experience and the income(hardmxing FTW), I'm really struggling to find a balance between my job responsibilities and my academic workload. It feels like I'm constantly behind in one area or the other, and it's starting to take a toll.

I'm finding that my sales targets and customer interactions often spill over into time I've allocated for studying, and the physical demands of fulfillment can leave me exhausted when it's time to hit the books. I'm worried about my grades slipping, but I also need to maintain this job for financial reasons and the practical experience it offers.

For other stem-maxxers out there who have managed to balance demanding work with their studies (especially if you've been in sales or a similar fast-paced environment), I'd love to hear your strategies.

Here are some specific questions I have:

  • Time Management: How do you effectively schedule your days/weeks to accommodate both work and studies? Are there any particular apps, planners, or methods you swear by?
  • Prioritization: How do you decide what takes precedence when both work and academic deadlines are looming?
  • Energy Levels: How do you maintain your energy and focus for studying after a long day at work? Any tips for preventing burnout?
  • Employer Communication: Have you had success talking to your employer about your student status and potential flexibility? If so, how did you approach it?
  • Study Habits: Are there any specific study techniques that work well for you when you have limited, fragmented time?
  • Networking/Social Life: How do you manage to fit in any semblance of a social life or networking when your plate is already so full?
Any advice, personal anecdotes, or even just solidarity would be greatly appreciated. I'm open to all suggestions!

Thanks in advance!
