I saw some political shit that made me think about this

Like attacking someone for doing something because your political party says it’s wrong, but when someone questions you to actually explain it you just go into bad faith attacks and mental gymnastics to defend the position of the group. But deep down even you don’t believe it, you just want to belong to a group so you defend ideas that aren’t yours.

I even see myself doing it sometimes

But it goes beyond that I see it everywhere ngl

Like double standards around gender for example, all based on norms and consistency is unwelcome

That's a good example, but I'd say it could just be boiled down to biology. It's the same reason we feel embarrassment, and why it is a negative emotion. Ostracization = less potential for mating. What happens in the present is whatever happens in the present, but the majority of humans are still hardwired to go along with the new thing.

Yeah agreed humans evolved to have a weird flaw when it comes to group dynamics, I just wish people were less dogmatic about their beliefs (I wish I was too I’m not above this) and more open to the possibility nothing they believe is true, I wish we didn’t rely on cheap labels to kill peoples character, I wish we could be more individualized toward situations instead of herd minded
