Societal norms are a form of slavery and brainwashing

People are more afraid of being seen as weird or “othered” by the group than being morally/ intellectually consistent and above all HONEST

Yeah it kills self expression and embraces insanity, what groups do would be seen as insane if one single person did it, but no one can recognize that, why are we like this

thats why you max out the looks department so everything you do is suddenly cool and trendy
Exactly If you’re aesthetic in modern society then you have the freedom to truly be yourself

It’s ironic when we tell sub5s “just be yourself”, because actually that advice is better suited for chads and harmful for sub5s

What's an example of a societal norm you're referring to

I saw some political shit that made me think about this

Like attacking someone for doing something because your political party says it’s wrong, but when someone questions you to actually explain it you just go into bad faith attacks and mental gymnastics to defend the position of the group. But deep down even you don’t believe it, you just want to belong to a group so you defend ideas that aren’t yours.

I even see myself doing it sometimes

But it goes beyond that I see it everywhere ngl

Like double standards around gender for example, all based on norms and consistency is unwelcome

That's a good example, but I'd say it could just be boiled down to biology. It's the same reason we feel embarrassment, and why it is a negative emotion. Ostracization = less potential for mating. What happens in the present is whatever happens in the present, but the majority of humans are still hardwired to go along with the new thing.

Yeah agreed humans evolved to have a weird flaw when it comes to group dynamics, I just wish people were less dogmatic about their beliefs (I wish I was too I’m not above this) and more open to the possibility nothing they believe is true, I wish we didn’t rely on cheap labels to kill peoples character, I wish we could be more individualized toward situations instead of herd minded

Another unfortunate thing is that the outliers are the ones who breed innovation, but are usually discouraged by the masses, and only given accolades after they've done something commendable with their intellect.

That’s another tragedy of it all

And often the innovators only get their recognition after their death, only in a fresh context can we see them through a clearer lens
