How many times do I need to say this before I realise that free will is an illusion?

Precisely!

We are but mere puppets on a string

Free will is an illusion

Therefore, why try?
because we feel in control. but rly it does not exist. you will still do w.e u want cuz it feels and might be achievable depending on ur luck

some things feel more/less in control than others.

im at the point where 'i' dont feel in control anymore. thats an illusion too ofc, there is no 'me' being restrained from control at the thoughts/emotions level. its over

im in the point where i dont feel in control anymore. tried everything. its over

I spent a lot of time thinking about free will and determinism and have began experimenting

Let’s take my physique for example. 5+ years In the gym and I look like shit

Why?

Because of my shitty genetics.

Despite nutrition, training and rest being dialed in, you wouldn’t be able to tell that I lift unless I take my shirt off

Pathetic

Okay, so the conclusion here would be “It is genetically determined that I will look like a twink regardless of how many years I train”

Alright, fair enough

How about if I modify my genetics?

Well, that’s exactly what I did!

500mg of Testosterone and my body is now responding to my training routine much better than before

So there is free will to an extent. It’s possible to change determinism at the top level but not at the bottom level

So, there appears to be semi-free will in the sense that you cannot change most things unless you go up to the very top, shoot the puppet master and replace him with someone else. (Like I did with my genetics 🧬)

Does that make sense?

in my mind its like, 'you' didnt have the option to choose "not wanting to inject testosterone", but still 'you' dont feel this absence of control so it doesnt matter

an absensce of control that you can feel is when you want to run but dont have legs or sth like that
or how your natty gymcelling didnt give results 'you' wanted

Damn nigga that’s facts

We’d free all prisoners under that logic

But I guess we gotta treat them like actors for their crimes by keeping them locked up to prevent further crimes

free will isn't a thing

I've thought ab this theory for soooo lang and everything we do in our everyday life is a reaction to smth else.

We have no control over what we do or say, we really are just a product of our innate characteristics and our environment

There's no escape

Assuming that we do have brief moments of free will, should the focus therefore be on changing our characteristics? (Such as using Test to override our genetic limits)

yup, imo it always made me a bit more empathetic towards others

we are all slaves to luck. genetics/environment, circumstances, then thoughts/emotions, all random and meaningless but our feelings are not meaningless to us, we still suffer. thats bad
we still feel in control of our thoughts/emotions almost always and our acts bring meaningful results a lot of the time, so just try being better to others, nothing else, life sucks, just make it easier for all of us. i dont do it cuz im a shit person

even then, you didn't have free will in the sense of 'I want to pin' or 'I want to change my genetics'.

You pinned because you didn't like what you see in the mirror which in turn made you try to alter your already determined body.

Every 'choice' you make is a reaction

It is an attempt to become 'better' in an already made up rat race of 'bad, better, the best'. If the focus in your brain is on becoming better then yeah blast 500g of test

if you feel like you can go against those perceived 'innate characteristics' (that i assume u dont like) why not do it? maybe thats ur destiny

because I can't, maybe some ppl can change their behaviour and I applaud them because they have the capacity to fight a battle within themselves. I don't see the point of the battle

what if u cant change ur behaviour innately but everyday u choose to act against it? sure it must be tiring but u can do it if it leads to a reward u want

I don't believe in ethics or any form of morality so there's no reason for me to act against it. I simply believe in true human nature so I'm fine with who I am as a person. Do you believe that ppl can transform their entire personality or characteristics?
