Although I understand that from a biological standpoint it only makes sense for people to either be attracted to Hypermasc or Hyperfem features, Androgyny is probably the easiest way to cheat that system.
The thing is, our brains have plenty of subconscious processes that materialize into thoughts that then will end up as concrete words and perception. One of those many processes is being able to distinguish males from females.
What our brains look for, wether you want it to or not, is a biological standard for each sex we have wired in our brains (both just by human nature, but can also be influenced by our society especially if we grow up in the ethnicity we belong to)
Such standards for males can be the bigger height, rougher facial features (Presence of fat doesn’t matter much, bones can’t be changed), wider shoulders, and deeper voice. For the latter it doesn’t even matter if the voice in question is higher pitched, as men and women have different intonations.
For women it could be a shorter stature, wider hips, presence of breast tissue, softer features and voice once again
There’s plenty of smaller details our brain takes into consideration that sometimes might not even make sense, but it’s not hard to realize that most people can easily differentiate men from women with a quick glance.
You might ask how Androgyny comes into this?
When I say androgyny, I’m talking about someone who has a perfect mix of all the features mentioned… to a point one cannot recognize their gender just by looking them.
Someone who has wide shoulders while also having wider hips, has rough and defined facial features with a dose of softness to them, and is of a height that makes them taller than most women yet shorter than most men.
Truth is, this appearance confuses our brains, and makes them unable to put the person in question into the predisposed binary category system.
It’s human nature to question things they can’t quite understand, that’s what curiosity is, and without realizing it we’ll want to pay closer attention to androgynous people to figure out what’s exactly going on. It’s not much different than the involuntary reaction of when you hear a sound and your head immediately turns to that direction, or you might catch something from the corner of your eye and focus on it to understand it better.
But this is different when the subject in question is a human, you’re paying attention to their features way more than you’d want to. Androgyny is striking no matter how you look at it for this reason.
curiosity = attraction , more often times than not
You’re intrigued by this person and your own nature will drive you to know more about them, and those feelings are very closely related to when you see a very beautiful person on the street and you can’t help but look at them
This is especially true if you’re in a society where Men and Women have dimorphism, it’ll only make the effect stronger
And that’s just for the most obvious answer, it appears in other ways too.
Depending on the person’s sexuality, their brains will drive them to find a partner that matches it, but how does that solidify the fact that androgyny helps in this case?
All encounters start by how I’ve mentioned it before, the person finds interest in the androgynous individual because they can’t understand what they are:
Heterosexual men will obviously try to find a female partner, so they’ll be more attracted to the presence of femininity on the subject’s features. Same thing for Homosexual women.
Heterosexual women will try to find a male partner, and they’ll pay more attention to the masculine features. Same for homosexual men
Androgyny is the jack of all trades but master of none, but that alone makes people who are truly androgynous be appealing to all genders and sexualities as everyone can find something they find attractive about them.
It doesn’t even have to be about sexual or romantic attraction,
Androgynous people tend to appear more comforting for both sexes to approach. They have enough masculine features to appear confident, but not too much to be threatening. They have enough feminine features to appear approachable, but not enough to appear vulnerable.
This combination makes most people more likely to approach them with simple things on the street: let it be checking the time, asking for help carrying something, asking for directions and etc.
This biological basis in combination with a good style and a good personality (wether you believe it’s important or not) makes androgynous people undefeated when it comes to attraction.
But after all, I’m just a man on the internet, what do you guys think of this rambling?
