The most commong explanation is that Hair follicles are sensitive to DHT, which causes the miniaturization of the hair follicles themselves (male pattern baldness).
Lots of people are non responders to minoxidil and minoxidil itself is incredibly toxic to cats and dogs.
Finasteride despite despite all the side effects seems to be pretty safe since it doesnt remain in the body for a long period of time and side effects usually go away pretty quickly.
Dutasteride is much more stronger and it stays in the body for longer, it can have worse side effects but they also usually go away with time.
Lots of people on this forum do adress estradiol and estrogen (despite the main cause to be DHT as most professional insist), and they do play a role if you have an hormonal imbalance

Fin is poison but doesn't affect some people as bad as others. DHT may be putting the kill shots on hair follicles but it's the scalp environment (fibrosis, calcification and inflammation etc) that makes DHT park itself there. That is why Fin etc usually only stops or just slows hair loss in some users and why there has been no cure yet.. A real old man once regrew his hair after like 6 or 7 months in the front after being bald there for many years because he fell into hot coals drunk and the area healed itself (burns were just short of being severe enough to cause pure scar tissue). It was like a dermaroller effect on steroids.

So whats the best Option If Fin is bad

Get on it as early as possible. First sign of slightest thinning. Massage scalp daily to help with tension and dermaroll (every 2 weeks 1.5 mm for 5 or 6 months to improve fibrosis etc conditions then .75 mm after that every 10 days). You must press hard if using a dermaroller. Also use magnesium oil about 2 times a week for 2 months on scalp to help with calcification in the follicle shafts. Don't get scared with magnesium oil as the first month you might shed quite a bit where it's getting the hair follicles going again out of the extended resting state the conditions had them in. This will pass though and improve down the road.
