Obviously, there’s an ancient relation to other South Asians, but to what extent and how exactly, we still don’t know. AASI is still a ghost population after all, and there is a current theory of there being different types of AASI. However, if we are going to say that South Asians are the same due to ancient components, then why stop there? Why not say we’re all Africans? I’m not denying any links with Dravidians, my (male) ancestors mixed with the locals so those who share my Y-DNA obviously I have some link to. But to say Punjabis are genetically close to other South Asians - or Dravidians to be precise - isn’t wrong. I don’t dislike Dravidians of course but I do dislike wrong information being pushed out to fit whatever narrative someone has.

After fucking meticulously looking through the interactive PCA plot map on Vahaduo for almost a half an hour, i managed to find populations that are the best to represent the 3 populations of your average Tamil, Punjabi Jatts, and Persians, with proof:




First Tamils:

Since there was no OBC Tamil castes listed on the PCA plot besides dalits and tribals, i had to use the next best caste to best represent the genetics of your average Tamil who would be either a Nadar or Vellalar. This was the Telugu Velama.


For some reason i literally couldnt find many "punjabi jatt" samples besides this one, so thats what we are going with:

And finally for iranian samples i found really only 3 samples, iranian fars, iranian zoroastrian, and iranian jew.

LMAO as you can see, the genetic distance that your average punjabi jatt is to the average iranian from fars or tehran is almost 3 TIMES shorter, than the genetic distance of your average tamil to your average punjabi jatt.

The difference between two populations is represented between 0 to 1. 0 being closest and 1 being farthest. Most professional tools only use 0 to 1 scale. IllustrativeDNA Uses rescaled metrics, where distances are often multiplied by ~100 to produce two-digit integers (e.g. 2.0, 5.2). A standard genetic distance of 0.08 would be displayed as 8 on IllustrativeDNA. This approach makes the results more intuitive for a general audience. It's just semantics.
