From 2010 to 2020 if you defence blogs and statements released by USA Chief of Staff, you'd come to believe that China is a paper tiger. That no matter how much it invests in tech, it will always face a shock in real conflict.
Now think about the conflicsts USA has been involved in in the 21st century. Each and every one of them is a strategic failure, not to mention a huge waste of taxpayer money. They claim tactical victory but none of their long term political goals have been met. In the recent Iran war, it has made things worse.
Clausewitz, the foundational source for Napoleonic and post Napoleonic era, has stated that war is an extension of the state to achieve its political goals. It is when all other options have been exhausted. Thus, if we were to give weight to these statements, we would know that USA has a terrible track record in conventional conflicts while China has none.
Given this, the idea that USA is in any way more likely to win a conflict against China, a hopeless delusion by a declining power
