The Visual Patterns Test (VPT) is the gold-standard neuropsychological assessment used to measure Visual Short-Term Memory (VSTM).

It was developed (most notably by Della Sala et al. in 1997) to isolate the capacity to remember static visual information ("what it looks like") distinct from spatial memory ("where it is").

This test measures Visual Short-Term Memory (VSTM) capacity, specifically isolating the visual cache.

It assesses the maximum amount of static visual information (pattern and form) an individual can hold in immediate memory, distinct from spatial memory (location or sequence).

By increasing the complexity after every success until a "3-strike" failure, the test establishes the user's Visual Span—the absolute upper threshold of visual items the brain can simultaneously retain before information overload occurs.

Take the test once in while in a relaxed state.

My score is 15, what's yours?

Average is around 9-11, so no. 13 is a good score. My score of 15 is basically the ceiling in this kind of task very, very few people can score higher than that.

Jst did sum online tests for fun

Which ion even think it estimates it correctly at all
Depends on the test tbh

Here is a list of the ones online that are accurate

141. :Comfy:
Also, I do dual n-back everyday, so it's not that impressive.
Wow cooool

I plan on starting a cogntitive training regimen pretty soon of Dual N-Back, time pressure Mastermind and timed Vample.com visual rotations of increasing complexity

Idk if you're concerned with pushing anything else or if you need to but yeah

How long have you been doing Dual N-Back and what N-Back are you upto?

All sounds good, vample's mental rotation training is very cool.

I'll aim for 20 next time, survival means improvement. :Comfy:

I've been doing it on and off for probably around two months. I started actually commiting to it after Christmas day, I'm confidently onto 3-back. I can swing 4-back, but there's definitely a very noticeable skill gap.

Mastermind the code breaking game btw I didn't clarify that

Does it feel like you could have?

For example I felt like I could get higher but I'm taking the test while dealing with some health issues so towards the end I could feel the strain on my attention

Has there been any noticeable differences in two months?

It barely gave enough time to analyze the patterns by the end of the test, but I guess it's not bad.

It's 1am here, so I'm a little drowsy. I don't think it really affected me. Maybe in better attention, I could get 19.

I hope you get better soon. :Comfy:

I progressed from 2-back to 3-back very quickly. Probably within the period of two weeks. 3-back is noticeably harder, but I can see over time that I'm get better. From a combined accuracy of ~70% to now ~96%.

Not yet. I'm currently going through WAIS, so I'll have an answer to the IQ question by the next month or so.
Are you being assessed for school?

What do you mean "going through WAIS"? Are you waiting for them to send you your scores? I'm not familiar with the process.

I want to see how they correlate

Do you remember the test?
Nah. It was right after elementary school.
I remember some pattern recognition.
The crystalline iq was the highest at 142 i think.

It's also 2 am.
If you tag me again tmrw i'll do it again with a little more sleep.
I slept 4 hours today and it was really a fucking rough day yk :FeelsWeakMan:

Yes but outside of N-Back you seem to feel some benefit has transferred beyond the task itself. I'm curious to what extent

I don't have any anecdotes notable enough to say, I guess that whenever I'm copying something down from the board (in school), I don't have to look up as frequently, I can store more words in my head.

Are you being assessed for school?
No, I'm over the age of 18 already. The main reason is that I started taking medication for ADD a while ago, and my physician wanted a clear answer on whether I really had ADD or something else like autism.

It is a battery of tests meant to assess several cognitive capabilities. It's quite the long process, and from the tests I've taken so far and what my therapist has told me it will let me know how I function in many aspects, from crystallized and fluid intelligence to more core personality traits.

Nuts

That's very believable if you are scoring 13 while under slept and exhausted, a score of 13 is still considered superior

Chin up bud at least you know whatever went wrong didn't happen because you're stupid :D

And hopefully my IQ glazing compensates somewhat for whatever that was :D

Ah I see, so it is quite a granular process.

I'm assuming there's multiple subtests for each facet of intelligence to isolate exactly where you brain is potentially lagging behind.

Are you going in for a session and taking 2-3 subtests at a time?

If so do you mind telling me one you've taken so far?

How did you get to 18?

Doesn't the game get perma stuck on 15? or at least I was stuck there, did like 20 times the same level and no new block came?
I'm not sure. :Comfy:

15 but I feel like I can do way better also a question I never asked anyone. Does iq increase while you get older or no because Ill turn 15 in 2 weeks so idk if 15 points is good

Precisely.
Are you going in for a session and taking 2-3 subtests at a time?
The therapist said she usually plans how many tests I take each time I see her, but it's also not totally set in stone. Sometimes I go and do 4-5 tests, sometimes I spend too much time talking to her and end up barely going through 1.
If so do you mind telling me one you've taken so far?
Sure, I could tell you a few.
  • Memorizing sequences of numbers and letters, then spelling everything backwards
  • Mental math
  • Basic education knowledge
  • Raven's matrices and other stuff that is not quite but very similar
  • Organizing cards in a logical sequence (usually it's cards with figures that tell an implicit story)
  • Personality questionnaires
  • Tower of London test
  • Puzzles like organizing cubes of different colors to form a specific image
  • Give the definition and meaning of a particular word
Also valid to mention that most puzzle-like tests have a time limit.
