Wavy hair advice

Does anyone have some advice for my wavy hair advice or any wavy hairstyles that might work for me, I usually put my hair down, in a natural looking way, (kind of like my Guts pfp) but my mother says it looks like I’m trying to force my hair to be straight.
I started using a leave in curly conditioner but I feel like it still doesn’t work, i don’t know if I’m using it wrong ( I put it on my hands then just rub it into my hair )

I do, I think this is the exact brush I use too, it’s just that my hair never comes out looking right, and when I use a brush it makes it look to straight
