Wearing durag to protect hair ?

When i go to sleep my hair is always flattened and looks like shit next morning and im tired of washing it every morning. Would wearing a durag during sleep help with this issue ? It was originally designed to protect hair during sleep before becoming a fashion piece, anyone having experience with wearing durag while asleep ?
