Were there any examples of cultures where darker skin was considered more attractive than lighter skin before colonialism?

Within almost every culture that I know of, a lighter skin tone is seen as more desirable than a darker one. This is prevalent in the East-Asian, South-Asian, South-East-Asian and African-American cultures for example. People say that that's only because of 'colonialism'. Well, if that's the case, you would expect to see many cultures that historically favoured or were neutral towards darker skin before colonialism. Is this the case?

In most western countries tanning is considered more attractive than pale

but I dont think there were any such cases throughout history where black was seen as more attractive
