I was just thinking, looking back, all of my history classes were complete dogshit and basically all of my relevant history knowledge has been self learned.

As far as I remember we literally never learned a thing about WW1, WW2, or even the Cold War other than the names of the countries involved and the Holocaust.

It was pretty much entirely about the Constitution, Great Depression, Native Americans, slavery, women's suffrage with a bit of state history and maybe a tiny, tiny bit about the Revolutionary War. Nothing outside of that.

I'm pretty sure I learned way more interesting history in art class than history class. I was just wondering if this is a universal thing across America or even the West or if it's just my school/a Washington state thing.

My history teacher was a fat old white guy which i suspect is a pedophile

He was really funny tho, he made fun of the ethnics in my class, told us stories from his life etc etc

Now hes retired :feelswah:

Shit, we only looked at the most important mainstream history like the 1st world war, but never really exciting things like ancient civilizations or indo European history.

In Australia, we just learned the very basics of Australian history, I had to learn most myself as an adult. In Grade 6 we did something about Vikings. In Grade 11-12 I did modern history and I only remember we did the American stuff you mentioned and WW2 muh Hitler bad. There's probably some other small stuff we did that I don't remember right now.

Our history classes were one of the few that I enjoyed, but it depends a lot on the teacher too. But also our curriculum was alright I think. We learned about medieval times and our country’s history but also about rhe Information Age and the Middle East wars and even American history which was interesting. Anyway it was a lot more interesting that a lot of other subjects.

Seems like eastern europe had all the bases mentioned here covered. Not much about the southern corners of the map though
