Carl Jung said all addiction is a low-level search for God. And in my opinion Addiction is proof you’re capable of devotion, but you’re just serving a false god.Deeply craving something physical is at a low level a spiritual thirst, because it’s a real hunger, but it’s just pointed at the wrong thing.
So if that’s true, every addiction is a counterfeit of something real. Scrolling is fake curiosity, alcohol is fake confidence, nicotine is fake calm, porn is fake intimacy, and gambling is fake risk-taking. Every one of these is a real need just for the fake mask, and the part that no one tells you is that your willpower alone keeps failing because you’re trying to delete a hunger that you can’t. You can only feed it with the real thing.
