Brown Khaki or Beige would be a classic British uniform choice but even bolder colors like yellow and blue could work is they are relatively muted and have some kind of texture like corduroy

I didn't know if blue was going to work, i tried it on with a pair of sun faded blue jorts

Not jorts. Try chinos or chinos shorts. I suggest trying it with navy blue but you could go brighter if you want to the Preppy style. I wouldn't suggest prep style tho

Should have bought an oversized polo then. A fitted polo always looks semi formal.

Ditch the polo and wear some navy bootcut jeans, black tee and leather converse
