What do I say to someone I know if I already saw them and said something already?

For example a coworker comes near me and we chat. And they briefly come back out later on. What do I say? Sometimes it catches me off guard and I don’t know what to say so I just say “ready to go home?” Or “man it’s a long day”

What are some other things to say when caught off guard

I just give them an awkward smile and they do the same

"yo man" or "sup bro" are my go to's for men

"what's up" or "hey" are my go to's for women.

Then just go from there.

Sometimes I try to be clever and say “oh man you scared me jumping out like that haha” but they just smile cringing to themselves as if they’re thinking “shut up ugly failure you’re shit at talking”
