And their reasoning is that modern humans have similar traits

But how did they know that they weren't normal human races that went extinct or different species of apes that went extinct

To better understand if both monkeys and humans went extinct today then aliens come 30 million years later

Would they conclude that both were humans because or both apes because we share similar traits
