4-2-3-1 became popularized around the time when I last had a significant interest in soccer around 2010

It was a good formation to use in FIFA 10/11 and I'm pretty sure Inter Milan used it when they wont the Champions League
I would assume it's fading out of the game now since the attacking midfield role/ number 10 role is becoming less and less crucial

Half of my classes in school would be spent creating dream teams under various conditions, best premier league XI etc, I would always fit them into that formation

U need the personnel to do it or u will be 0-0 merchant at best but I always use it in Fifa since having 3 at back offers so much versatility imo. Plus the cms and wingbacks can be doing entirely different things based upon the situation and matchup. One game ur defending next game ur going forward just depends man

I only play Fifa 18 cuz of the world Cup mode. But newer FIFA's have more options to customize your gameplan for sure in Fifa 18 u are limited but in Fifa 21 the free trial I played u could do width depth and everything. What I dont like is that the players rely on speed too much so u need to play more deep which is boring since it's a video game not supposed to be playing to get one point so I play older FIFA's instead

Best formation

4-1-2-1-2 that can also be seen as a 4-1-2-3. With attacking wingbacks and a DM that drops back to the CB position when in attack. So more of a 3-4-1-2 in attack but a 4-1-2-1-2 in defence.

Funny story regarding Eto'o at Inter:

Even though he has always been a natural striker, Mourinho would often play him as a left-winger with more defensive duties allowing Milito to be the main striker during the season where they won the treble in 2010.

Next season, when Mourinho had left Inter for Real Madrid and Inter appointed Rafa Benitez as his successor, Benitez asked Eto'o to play the same role as he did under Mourinho, but he blatantly refused to do so and told Benitez that he would only do that for Mourinho
