Bears: Extremely strong and huge. Bear attacks almost always end in death and severe injuries but generally shy passive animals that avoid confrontation.

1000181759

Tigers: Muscular agile hunters. Unlike bears are known to actively hunt humans. There are documented cases of man-eater tigers

Images 2025 05 04T225303095

Elephants: Generally passive animals but can be aggressive when provoked or during mating season; responsible for many human deaths annually.

1000181762

Hippopotamus:Surprisingly fast and extremely territorial and very aggressive Frequent cause of death near African rivers.
1000181763

Crocodiles: Ambush predators powerful jaws and quick in the water. Unlike their alligator cousins. Crocodile are aggressive and known to hunt humans. Responsible for many deaths every year in Africa

Of those I would absolutely fear a tiger the most.
I remember seeing a video here of a tiger dragging some indian guy by his neck like he was a rag doll.

Polar bears don't hunt humans. They just eat whatever they can get while tigers actively target humans

View attachment 3704293
Sure, but that doesnt mean that if you see a polar bear in the open, you are not dead unless you have a powerful rifle. Tigers are dangerous too I guess but they dont kill humans for fun. Thats what polar bears do. I guess you could say both are dangerous but its harder to fend off a polar bear given its size and thick skin

Hippos can be pretty deadly.
I'm not sure exactly but I'd discount Grizzlies and Elephants since they are far less confrontational.
Or does this hypothetical assume that they all want to attack us?

I think you would have to weigh in their likelihood of attack here, since nobody is getting away if any of these animals want to kill you. Would make the question pointless

Man eating tiger and a hippo. Hard to choose what is worse. I guess the tiger because you can avoid a hippo pretty easily since its so huge and does not sneak around the jungle lmao.

You've got a photo of some British colonial hunter there. Interesting seeing a different era.
Yes the legendary british hunter and environmentalist Jim Corbett. One of the world's first wildlife conservationists. He hunted many dangerous man-eaters throughout India and Nepal. He is the real life version of demon slayer. There's a national park in India named after him in his honor

So a polar bear you stand utterly no chance. It sits at the top amongst all apex predators
The only animals I think that can stand their own against them are Elephants and Rhinos
1746381257327
1746381279883

Weight matters the most when it comes to fights amongst each other.

A human would have higher chance of killing a bear than a tiger though, in hand combat (no weapons)
With a spear, he could kill tigers more easily

There used to be a guy who was an explorer a 100 years ago. He was nicknamed the Jaguar Hunter
1746380486417

He killed over 30 with a spear and 14 with a bow.
Was taught by an Aboriginal man on how to do it.
And jaguars are deadly animals. They have the highest PSI bite force amongst all the large cats, sitting at around 1500PSI iirc.

Unlike other cats, that would target your neck and choke you out/kill you, a jaguar would simply crush your skull.
A tiger is very similar to the jaguar, but even larger and heavier. It will pounce on you and kill you within seconds.

A bear being an omnivore would not kill you before eating you. Which is worse IMO, but you have a higher chance of fighting back/ living… but not a chance against a Polar bear

1746381387868

So, for us, it goes:
Polar bear >> Siberian Tiger > Other tigers > Other Lions > Other Jaguars > Brown Bear > Black Bear >> Cougars/Mountain Lions (people have killed these with a rock before & some villagers in India and Africa are recorded having strangled them)

In terms of amongst them:
Polar Bear >> Other Bears > Other Tigers > Other Lions > Other Jaguars >> Cougars/Mountain Lions

50% of the time if you cross a brown/black bear, they won’t even try to kill you. A tiger will always kill you

You can see Hippos and Elephants from far away, so good chance at dodging.

Crocs are harder to spot, and you are done if they surprise you, but they can be avoided/outsmarted for the most part.

A brown bear is dangerous, especially with cubs around, but you can play dead and hopefully survive, or try running away hoping the bear prioritizes staying close to her cubs.

But I think a tiger stalking you from the thick jungle vegetation is game over. Even if you see him first - he will see you, and he can chase you easily. Unless you have weapons you are basically dead.

Watched a stickman vid about this I think, pretty sure this specific tiger had something wrong with it physically like it's claws (im not sure but it basically made it's hunting stat 0) or something that made it so it couldn't hunt animals at all so it resorted to humans or it would starve to death

Well its different in the wild or in environments where animals are accustomed to human presence. Hippos most dangerous/likely to attack. Big cats have fear of humans in the wild (fear of the unknown I guess) when not around them but in captivity/nature reserves when around humans thats not true and they are allot more dangerous.

Bears, besides polar bears, are really not anywhere near as murderous
But dying to a bear is 1000x worse than to a tiger
So either admit defeat and go for a relatively painless & quick death, or take your chance to survive depending on whether the bear:
  • is full or not
  • has cubs nearby
  • thinks you’re on his territory
  • views you as a threat
and risk having an excruciatingly painful long death

That is true for most big cats like Lions, Leopards etc but tigers are an exception to this rule. They are known to hunt humans. Villagers in India wear these masks behind their heads to avoid getting stalked by tigers

Hippos aren’t really omnivores, they are purely herbivores.
Death from an omnivore is worse, because the bear is tearing the person limb from limb, chewing away whilst the person is alive

One crunch from being in the hippo’s jaws and you’ll be dead. But they’ll spit you out (if they even do this)
It’s more likely the hippo will capsize your boat and stomp on you or bring you down to drown you

Black ones are actually very timid
There’s been cases where a chihuahua has scared a bear away from simply barking

Black ones you should always fight back and shout, trying to appear larger β€” with your arms in the air.

With grizzly bears, you got to lie on your back in a fetal position protecting your organs and head. The bear will maybe try to attack you to make sure you are dead, and will attack your back

Which is why it’s good to wear your camping rucksack in your back and stay still as the bear is shredding away at it

Black bears will only really try to attack like they did in the 1st video, if they are very hungry. Or they are with their cubs. Most will run away

I think tigers have the most proven track record of animals not to be messed with. There have been cases of tigers hunting down asian elephants and rhinos that are like multiple times their size. There's a reason why jungle safaris outside of national parks is not a thing in India @TheLightOfMyLife
