A PSL is a standard deviation, interesting take2 standard deviations above average.
68, 95, 99.7 rule
So top 2.5%
Yeah PSL scale is trash and people should be rated by percentilesGood example of why the 'PSL' scale is retarded. Widely divergent answers to a basic question.
That's the way it was designed to be, and that's why it goes between 1 and 8. Once you hit 1 in 32,000 the numbers become essentially meaningless.A PSL is a standard deviation, interesting take
the psl scale is based off the standard deviation graphA PSL is a standard deviation, interesting take
So i am 6 pslImo 5 psl is top 20%, you are above average.
5.5 psl is top 15%
6 psl is top 5%
Not at 5'3" you're notSo i am 6 psl
Face wiseNot at 5'3" you're not
In that case it would be so tough to even know where your face falls along the bell curve. You’d need some sort of baselines to work off, like if you had studies that created those combined faces out of hundreds, and they established that after surveying people, This face is one standard deviation above, and so on for different faces, to be able to compare. Without this, making a PSL rating for Someone is a huge ballpark estimate. That's the way it was designed to be, and that's why it goes between 1 and 8. Once you hit 1 in 32,000 the numbers become essentially meaningless.
The issue was that people began to take 8 as 'perfection' and cram all of the top models into the 7's, and so everything got condensed to a point where it's all distorted.
But people saying it's X percentage other than 2.5% are idiots. It's standard deviations, always has been and always should be.
PSL is only for faces isn’t it?Not at 5'3" you're not
That's sort of the issue. Once you've rated enough faces you can begin to form some sort of comprehensive framework and it'll get more and more accurate as time goes on, but you can't ever be objectively sure that person X is whatever percentile. You just feel it.In that case it would be so tough to even know where your face falls along the bell curve. Yes but you have a sampling error since all the faces your getting are from online forums. That's sort of the issue. Legit? Did not know thatthe psl scale is based off the standard deviation graph
I've estimated for a while that the real world average among men in general is like 3Yes but you have a sampling error since all the faces your getting are from online forums.
It would be better if we all had an established real world “average”. Because, believe it or not, based on all the faces I’ve rated or seen on this forum, and all the male faces you see in the real world, I believe the real world average would be lower, if only because fatasses don’t really post their pictures on here as much.
You're lurking too hard if this is true. I see more people irl than I see on here.Yes but you have a sampling error since all the faces your getting are from online forums.
Of course it would, but we don't, and the average varies drastically based on location. You make do with what you can get.It would be better if we all had an established real world “average”. JFL if you thought I was serious. Only the 2,45% of people realised
You're lurking too hard if this is true. I see more people irl than I see on here.
Yeah that’s exactly what I say, based on real world men, average is 3. And maybe a bit more if you’re only using men in theI've estimated for a while that the real world average among men in general is like 3
Among young men, maybe 3.5
So i am 6 psl
Then you're rating the people you're calling a 4 too leniently. It's a personal thing, ignore whatever anyone else rates someone.Yeah that’s exactly what I say, based on real world men, average is 3.
WymThen you're rating the people you're calling a 4 too leniently. It's a personal thing, ignore whatever anyone else rates someone.
4 PSL is the centre of the scale - dead average
I agree with 5psl being top 20%Imo 5 psl is top 20%, you are above average.
5.5 psl is top 15%
6 psl is top 5%
That makes sense, but to be more explicit, what I mean when I say the average man is around 3 or 3.5 is that most users here overestimate the average. The people rated 4 here are usually above average and the people rated 3 or 3.5 are closer the actual average man.4 PSL is the centre of the scale - dead average
When I say I think a person is 4 PSL, I mean to say that I believe them to be about average.
If you think the average person you see day to day is what I (or what the forum as a whole) would call a 3 PSL, that's your opinion based on your own experience.
And your scale, using the PSL standard deviation framework, should rate my 3 as your 4, and consequently as your centre point for other ratings.
Does that make sense? It's not a very easy thing to explain.
It means there will be disagreements, but there's always going to be disagreements.
There's probably some truth that, and a whole host of possible reasons why. It's a very flawed system, but it's the best we have. That makes sense, but to be more explicit, what I mean when I say the average man is around 3 or 3.5 is that most users here overestimate the average. "Average" meaning if we had intelligent raters rate every man and take the average rating.
Nah, some people here who are rated 4psl look really like shit sometimes. That makes sense, but to be more explicit, what I mean when I say the average man is around 3 or 3.5 is that most users here overestimate the average. It is not the best system available. Some of us simply rate people based upon percentile, and eliminate the needless and helter-skelter conversion to 'PSL'.. It's a very flawed system, but it's the best we have.
