What retinoid do I use with hydroquinone?

I am planning on purchasing 4% hydroquinone and using it for 3 months to help with skin lightening and fading dark spots. Someone recommended me to use 0.025% tretinoin. Beware I have used 0.045% tazarotene for the last 8 months and haven’t gotten any irritation, but also not really any results. Is a 0.025% tretinoin high enough to mix with hydroquinone, or should I get higher?
