You have to specific. I dont know what you mean by 'modern hypergamy'. But hypergamy, and preselection has from my research and observation always been a part of female nature. What im saying is more about how women, even evolutionarily, have always leveraged their looks (or female figure) in order to gain advantage in life. Not even necessarily because they found preference in doing it (to give the benefit of doubt), but simply because it has been the most effective method till date. You see this even on a corperate level, where the female owned bit is highlighted as a tactic to encourage the consumer.

This usually means that; for a average women, there's more vested interest to her body than there is for a man. A man can of course leverage their looks in the same manner, but its less effective due to to the dynamics of human nature and society. For a guy, vested interest has always been in leadership, and mind. This is why even today, you find that more men are willing to invest, and even throw away money to content creators who preach the same conventional wisdom about leadership; like Tate, Tai Lopez and such. While women, you notice they throw more money blindlessly into things such as gym, beauty industry, fashion, and such things that can highlight their "image" as a women.
