what should i be looking for when trying to reduce hyperpigmented brown dark circles

there are many ingredients associated with "brightening" the skin and acting as tyrosinase inhibitors, but which are the most important?

currently looking to buy 2 products, one with vitamin c/niacinamide and one with thiamidol, azelaic acid, or tranexamic acid, or possibly something better that im missing

already on adapalene + benzoyl peroxide epiduo, so unsure about additional retinoids

would prefer products available without a prescription, so something like hydroquinone is out of the picture
