you hear it everywhere on this forum but whenever i try to look into it its either used by somebody to turn transgender or used by bodybuilders so i'd like to ask what it really is and what its used for

HRT (or TRT) refers to hormone replacement therapy. essentially a low/replacement dose of said hormone (testosterone) often around 70-140mg for most.
