Option 1: The High-Status Hustler
You're a software engineer at a top product firm, quant trader, or PE associate serious money and prestige. LinkedIn shines: Software Engineer @ BigTech or Quant @ top HFT. Relatives, friends, and uncles even random people look at you as some inspiration who made it through grind and merit. You earn peoole's respect without even saying a word because you are a symbol of the victory for the middle class. But it's relentless. 50โ70 hour weeks, 3 a.m. on-calls, brutal reviews, constant upskilling. The respect is real but it is always tied to the job.
Option 2: The Legacy Overseer
BA degree, family owns hotels. You oversee one Marriott property. No boss, nice suite, delegate ops to GM, handle big calls when needed, rest of the time is yours. No salary but you get dividends , zero financial stress, total freedom. Society hits hard tho. Spoiled brat, lazy nepo kid. No one respects you. Side eyes at family events, whispers about privilege, no LinkedIn clout. Freedom feels great but constant judgment and legacy pressure stings. You have to continue running the hotel you don't have a choice.
