It's normal.

When you do accutane or retinoids you're increasing cell turnover.

In a nutshell, there's sorta 'dormant acne' in the deeper layers of your skin.

When you increase cell turnover you're pushing these out.

And thus you have a 'purge' phase.

This is super oversimplified, obv. Take it with a grain of salt.
