why are premolar extractions even a thing

i can’t stop hating my mom who let my orthodontist convince her i needed 2 upper premolar extractions for a mild overjet when i was 13 even tho she didn’t know any better i still despise her for it and it sucks that ill never get to know what my true potential was lookswise bc of it and i had a decent childhood too in terms of the nutrition i ate and how much i would chew tough foods but now all thats out the window
