Young workers are going to be naturally much mroe productive than oldcels about to retire because they will be in their mental and physical prime while also gaining most of the necessary experience within a few years. Old people need a pension reitrees, most workers have a state pension along with some degree of savings and get a pension from their old job. If there aren't enough workers paying off the boomers pensions, it won't be able to continue and penioners need an ever-increasing base of workers to fund their pension because its shaped like a ponzi-scheme tbh. Not enough workers = no pensions, but more workers when you are actually working means more competition, lower wages and being forced to meet a higher standard of general expectations.
