Why do girls ask if you have siblings?

When I go out on dates, many times a girl would ask about how many siblings I have; and I have always found this question weird. I mean, there are tons of other questions that she could be asking to know me better before asking about my family.

I was thinking maybe they are programmed to ask this question to assess your fertility. If your parents were able to have many children, then this increases the probability that you've inherited a good reproductive capability.
