Why do I look awful in photos?

I look awful in my iPhone camera both front and back…but in the mirror I look fine, and IRL people occasionally say I look good and I get IOIs.

Is my camera lying to me?

It also depends on the angle. Selfie arm length in natural lighting, I look fine. If I use the selfie and stand like 20ft away I look subhuman?
