by holding children accountable for crimes shows that the state implicitly acknowledges that the child is capable of understanding right and wrong. and therefore would be able to understand sex enough to consent to it


A better argument is just the fact that society is better off if adults are barred from sexual relations with children. Simply because there's a lot of manipulation and potential for abuse.

I think Normie's expose their hypocrisy of moral fagging about this. When the utilitarian function of the age of consent pays dividends to societal of well-being.
