Why do people hate horror movies so much?

midsommar is a masterpiece
Midsommar

Some people who I’ve talked with about Midsommar said they would have preferred the movie have a supernatural element instead of being entirely human, what’s your thought about that?

What are your favorite ones?

Horrors are a bit hit or miss, they're either insane or utter shit

I watched smile recently which was good
Some movies that I’ve watched recently and would recommend:

- Dead Silence (possessed doll)

- It Follows (a sexually transmutable supernatural force follows people)

- [REC] (found footage, set in Barcelona)

- Sinister (families being killed in their homes, someone is researching why)

- El Orfanato (haunted orphanage for handicapped children)

- The Descent (a group of women go caving)

- The Autopsy of Jane Doe (a young woman’s body is autopsied and things start to happen)

I just don't see the appeal. I saw smile recently and it was meh, that's the only horror film I can remember seeing. I usually watch actions/spy films.

From what I read online, they tend to be quite generic.

Dark water is really good, probably the scariest movie I’ve ever seen
Good choice. Keep in mind there's an American remake by the same name but that's from 2005. The original is from 2002 and called 仄暗い水の底から or honogurai mizu no soko kara.

Great recommendation list, btw. Dead Silence, [REC], Sinister and the Autopsy of Jane Doe are great movies. Never watched It Follows or El Orfanato. Admittedly I didn't watch It Follows due to being incel JFL. The Descent was ok to me.

Anyway if Midsommar had a supernatural element I guess that'd be better but I think how it is now is also fine since it reminds me of Vikings and their barbarity.

Yeah but dark water in English

There are a lot, so I'm going to name some of the most popular.

Ju-on (This was remade as The Grudge)
Ringu (This was remade as The Ring)

There's also Thai horror and South Korean horror but they, ESPECIALLY Thai horror, rely way too much on jump scares as well. But Shutter is a good example that you could watch.

Motherfucker.

The Ring still scares me to this day.

Oh word? I thought you meant the original JFL at me.
No I mean the original just that it’s called dark water in English

Mirin bhai. When did you watch it and where? Storytime pls.

Did you watch the original or the remake?

I believe it was at home at around 2007, I was alone. If I remember it was at night and I was alone.

They play this movie regularly on local TV in Singapore.

I watched the original.

I usually sleep in my room alone at night but when I watched it again some time back I asked my mother to sleep with me in my room lmao

Anyways God will protect me from these entities(if they exist that is)

Idk. I never found them that scary tbh.

Its impossible to not like American Psycho as a guy tbh, the whole movie is supposed to portray what all of us have inside ourselves but we don’t show to the outer world

Superhero movies were always meant for weak men who need to feel powerful by identifying themselves with some dude with super powers

I haven’t but have long been intrigued with it, I even researched old ass maps about it
If I ever get the chance, I’d like to delve down into it. Have you? I’ve heard it’s very hard to get down nowadays, its much more monitored than it was before

Thanks for recommendations! I’ll start with Martyrs then will see the others too
np! And qft, surprised to have shown you more than expected. Martyrs separates the prettyboys from the men if you kno what I mean.

Got lost at one point but doubt it's as massive as expected due to the frames of other buildings in conjunction it started out as a cave afaik. Would do again.

Batman is the outlier in that because you can relate to both sides and I thought Robert Pattinson's version showcased what it meant to be living as another being and its side effects. Including losing. Or on the flipside Heath Ledgers Joker who is assumed to be based on an armed forces serviceman.

As for American Psycho, well...:

Shot Caller was the last awesome pure American-based Hollywood one for me in some time.

I’ve read thing about how it might have 10+ stores, the lower ones dating back to centuries

Did you encounter other explorers while down there?

I got a bit traumatized by horror movies when I was a little kid.

Any horror movies I watch now don't scare me (they bore me), but the few things I watched as a child kind of haunt me (mosty when I close my eyes in the shower).

Do you have specific antagonists that stuck with you?

Idk about this. Low class White whores love horror and gore

Bookmarking the thread just for some of the suggestions.
I don't fuck with the Japanese stuff as much as I should. I did for a moment but it faded. Very creative.

What I have really fallen into and wish it was more pronounced. The Horror/Action/Suspense genre of films we see around. Fun stuff. Give me a monster, guns and some explosions. I'm in love.

I hate some of the horror films that simply relay on setting and score to do all of the the work for it. And at times pure horror can be written so badly..I understand its a film and some characters are going to do dumb things simply for the sake for the film but..

I love rom-coms. Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants was peak cinema.

Yeah it was very long. But the bedroom scene was worth it! How did you like that one?
You mean the death of Allie? That was probably the most brutal kill I’ve seen in a movie. The bleach & salt was cruel, while Art still managed to make the scene somewhat comical with his acting. When her mother stepped into her room and she moved as she was somehow still alive I’ve felt pain for a moment as if I was her.

Yep, that's the one! I agree with you, in fact I even felt that shit was so over the top. Should've given Art some candy, I guess. :feelskek:

So they had a fundraiser for a sequel (Terrifier 2) set at $50,000 (for special effects) and instead they got $250,000. Most of that money went to that scene and you can clearly see it. I'm glad I watched it, despite not watching American horror movies anymore. At least this one was relatively creepy, which most American movies aren't.

I watch mostly horror cause i can relate to that genre the most since my life is also horror .
