The difference between theft and conquest is simple,
Theft usually means a violation of law in that particular land as an individual.
Conquest on the other hand isnt as individualized as theft since its a dispute between different entire opposing cultures who do not follow the same "laws/rules" as the other. Therefore, engaging in a "forceful" competition with the inhabitants of that land to secure political control over it and winning is not considered theft but rather conquest.
Stolen=Informal, Individual, dispute between individuals
Conquered=Formal, Political, dispute between cultures
An superior culture conquered a inferior culture. This happens all the time in history, yet people cope and say stolen.
