What is it with Russians and suicide?

If you mean the country generally, it's a gynocracy with lots of holdover soviet policies; things are already bad, there's no opportunity, but men have to suffer more and it all compounds.

If you mean Ukraine war clips, the infantry is seen as an expendable thing that's not meant to be rotated or evac'd (not even out of indifference but basic lay of the land, battlefield demands), it's not in the equation even if you're SOF; everyone there knows the horror stories of wounded men wailing and rotting for weeks just meters away from their comrades, suicide is a rational thing. You don't sign up with high hopes to begin with anyway, almost all troops are middle aged men that failed in everything else in life.
