This isn’t the case in the uk as much as it is in America. By the time you specialise and become a consultant you’ll be 40 at least.

Then that’s one of the only valid reasons to do it but it’s incredibly sad how they’re treated. If I was studying it I would be trying my best to go to America or even Australia where they’re better compensated

In my case I chose dentistry mainly because I didnt really know what career path to go down into, and I knew it had on average the highest paying starting salary for graduates

Plus one of my main hobbies growing up was related to arts and manual dexterity, and Ive been interested in biology and chemistry for a while so dentistry was like the perfect mixture of those things

Being a private dentist mogs being an NHS dentist to hell, not just with the pay but also the work environment. Did work experience at both and the NHS was terrible

Yeah dentistry definitely mogs. It’s easier to do private practice too. Orthodontics especially pays really well.

Yeah I’ve used both nhs dentists and private and nhs was very poor. Anything with the nhs is so terrible. It’s literally decaying

I think it's because there's a conflict of interest in public healthcare countries. You want doctors to get paid well to incentivize people to do that hard work + studying, but simultaneously you want healthcare to be cheap which means that there's not a lot of funds for high wages

So if you decide to work in a country with primarily privatized healthcare like the US you'll get paid really well because there's no longer that constraint of affordability

There should be enough funds man. They tax us to death here and they still can’t pay them something decent. I understand it’s unrealistic to pay them multiple six figures like in America but at least £100k or so is deserved.

As I’ve mentioned a senior manager in audit makes close to that and they do such a simple task whereas doctors do complex tasks not to mention having done through med school.

That’s why I think it’s time to introduce some sort of insurance based system here. Perhaps let the poorest in society get covered with the nhs but the rest who can afford to use some sort of insurance based system
